Dora Lee McNeal

Mrs. Dora Lee McNeal, 85, of Atmore, joined the heavenly choir on Friday, May 8, 2015, at her residence with her family by her side.

A native of Hurricane, she attended school in Baldwin County and in her youth was a member of St. Mary’s Baptist Church. After relocating to Atmore, she became a member of Pleasant Hill (Baptist) Full Gospel Baptist, where she served willingly and faithfully as a member of the Senior Choir, the Usher Board, member of the Missionary Society and the Sunday School.
In her leisure she loved to fish, cook, sing, and do gardening. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a retired employee with the Escambia County Board of Education, where she worked in housekeeping, retiring after 34 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry McNeal; a daughter, Joyce C. McNeal; a son, Edward Louis McNeal; all her brothers and sisters, and many other family members.

Those left to embrace her love and legacy in life are four daughters, Annie U. (Alfonzia) McNeal- Williams, Carlie Maxcine (Clinton Jr.) Felder, Bessie Ann (Johnny Ray) McNeal-Brooks and Creashandra McNeal, all of Atmore; three sons, Edgar (Crystal) McNeal of Flint, Mich., Willie M. McNeal and Robert McNeal, both of Atmore; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and an adopted son, Louie Turner III of Atmore.

Celebratory services will be Saturday, May 16, at noon at Pleasant Hill Full Gospel Baptist Church, Highway 21 in Atmore with the Rev. Freddie D. Banks, pastor and celebrant, and Dora will be taking her earthly rest in the Crossroads Cemetery in Crossroads.

Public viewing will be held Friday from 2 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and her body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service with Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC, directing.
