Barbara Jean Johnson

Mrs. Barbara Jean Johnson, 72, of Atmore, received her Heavenly reward on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope.
Mrs. Johnson was a native of Semora, N.C., and had resided in Baltimore, Md., for many years before relocating to Atmore. She was a graduate of Person County High School in North Carolina and had attended Winston-Salem (Teacher’s College) State University in North Carolina. She worked many years in the nursing profession as an LPN.
She was a member of New Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Atmore.
Those who are left to embrace her love, life, and legacy are a devoted and loving husband, James Johnson Jr. of Atmore; one daughter, Leslie Hayes of Atmore; two sons, Anthony (Danielle) Johnson and Gregory (Monika) McGhee, all of Baltimore; one sister, Gladys Elmore of Semora; and six grandchildren.
Public viewing will be held Wednesday, May 20, from 2 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Longmire/Jones Memorial Chapel of Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 23, at 1 p.m. from Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Semora, with interment being in the adjoining cemetery with Plenty’s Funeral Home of Semora directing and Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC, handling local arrangements.
