Patrick Avant Douglas Sr., 78, passed away in his home on June 18, 2015, in Mobile after a long illness.
Mr. Douglas was born on Aug. 4, 1936, in Evergreen to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Douglas. He graduated from Murphy High School in Mobile and then Auburn University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, and later obtained a master’s degree in engineering from Oklahoma State University.
He married the former Gwendolyn Quimby in 1961. He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. He worked 38 years for the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he pursued many overseas assignments in Saudi Arabia, Germany, Panama, Turkey and Kuwait, to name a few. He was a true history buff who enjoyed finding, collecting and researching historical military items.
Mr. Douglas is survived by his wife of 54 years, his son, Patrick Douglas Jr.; his daughter, Kelly Fowler; and four grandchildren, Caroline and Emily Douglas, and Lydia and Creighton Fowler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Mike; and sister, Sandra.
A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, at Springhill Presbyterian Church, followed by a reception for family and friends.
