0902 pacekendrickChief Deputy Mike Lambert with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a 911 call of shots fired at the home located south of Wind Creek Casino on Ala. Hwy. 21.

“When the deputies arrived, they were greeted by a male subject who had received multiple gunshot wounds to the lower part of his body,” Lambert said. The identity of the shooting victim was not released.

Arrested was 30-year-old Kendrick Lajuan Pace, Lambert said.

“Witness statements say that (Pace) thought someone was trying to enter the residence and began shooting through the single-wide mobile home,” Lambert said. “Then, the statements show that Pace and the victim got into a verbal altercation and Pace apparently shot the victim over the altercation.”

As part of their investigation, law enforcement recovered firearms, spent shell casings and “what appeared to be illegal narcotics,” he said.

The victim, who was not identified, was treated at a local hospital for what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries, Lambert said.

Pace is currently being held in the Escambia County Detention Center on charges of attempted murder, wreckless endangerment, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana I and failure to appear.

Pace’s bond was revoked.
