A Mobile couple was arrested Saturday after allegedly being caught with prepackaged cellphones outside Holman Prison.
Chief Deputy Mike Lambert with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said Monday Joshua L. Baker, 20, and Icela C. Hosey, 33, are each charged with inmate in possession of a cell phone.
“At approximately 1:30 p.m., correctional officers at Holman noticed a suspicious vehicle traveling at a slow rate of speed in front of the prison,” Lambert said. “As they began to approach the vehicle, they could see it was occupied by a male and a female. The vehicle then left, headed toward Ala. Hwy. 21, and was later stopped.”
Inside the vehicle, behind a seat, officers found a large quantity of cell phones wrapped in plastic with numbers written on them, Lambert said.
Baker and Hosey were detained for questioning and later placed under arrest.
“It is unfortunate that these people chose to jeopardize their freedom by breaking the law,” Lambert said.
Baker is being held on a $25,000 bond, while Hosey is being held on a $10,000 bond.
