Qualifying ends for upcoming primary, general election

Qualifying for the upcoming primary and general election has ended.

For the Escambia County Commission, Incumbent Raymond Wiggins, a Democrat, is running against Republican Rodney Butts for the District 2 seat in the November general election.

In District 4, Incumbent Brandon Smith will face off against James Hilton “Junior” Hall in the GOP primary on March 1.

The Escambia County school board will see two district seats up for election.

In District 6, Incumbent Sherry Digmon is facing off against Chris Rowland and David Nolin in the March 1 GOP primary.

Cynthia “Cindy” Jackson is running unopposed in District 4.

Circuit Judge Dave Jordan, a Republican, is running unopposed.

In the district judge’s race, Republican Jeff White is running against Democrat Eric Coale in the November election.

District Attorney Steve Billy, a Democrat, is running unopposed.

The primary is slated for Tues., March 1, 2016. If necessary, a runoff will be held on April 12, 2016.

The general election will be held on Tues., Nov. 8, 2016.

Escambia County Probate Judge Doug Agerton said he hopes the turnout will be good for the election.
