Atmore Police Officers arrested a Monroeville couple Saturday on drug possession charges.

APD Chief Chuck Brooks said officers initiated a traffic stop on West Nashville Avenue for a bad headlight.

“After speaking with the driver and the passenger for a few minutes, officers observed suspicious behavior,” Brooks said. “The officers asked for and obtained consent to search the vehicle.”

Brooks said during the search, several items confiscated were considered to be drug paraphernalia, along with a substance believed to be crystal methamphetamine. He said once officers found the drugs, both subjects were placed under arrest.

Alicia Jernigan, 29, of Monroeville, and Jerrell Johnson, 29, also of Monroeville, were arrested for possession of a controlled substance — a class C felony — and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both were transported to the APD without incident before arriving at the Escambia County Detention Center.
