It’s moving week for the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce.

The local city organization is moving from its office in the YMCA building to one that sits at the corner of Main Street and Ridgeley downtown.

Chamber Executive Director Sheryl Vickery said this move is a dream come true.

“This has been a goal for me since I’ve been here,” Vickery said. “This was coming up in board meetings. They said ‘let’s move downtown.’”

The chamber bought its new building in October.

When the opportunity came to purchase the new office building, Vickery said the chamber took it.

Right after Williams Station Day, the chamber set out bids for construction of the building.

Huskey Construction of Atmore won the bid, and it has been working in the new building for almost a month, Vickery said.

“We should be in full operation there by Jan. 4 (2016),” she said.

Vickery said the chamber’s new office space is bigger with a large lobby, two offices, a boardroom, storage and a small kitchenette.

One of the reasons why the chamber decided to move offices is because it will allow visitors to Atmore a chance to see that there is a chamber in the city, Vickery said.

“We have so much traffic that comes by on Main Street,” she said.

The former chamber office will now be occupied by the YMCA, Vickery said.

“(YMCA CEO) Paul (Chason) has done a great job of getting new members,” she said.
