Council approves grant for park repairs

Atmore’s city council approved a resolution to apply for a $75,000 grant that would help go toward repairs to the bathrooms and pool at Houston Avery Park.

Councilman Cornell Torrence said the repairs are needed.

“Any help we can get over there, we need it,” Torrence said during a public hearing for the pool repairs.

The total cost of the project at the park is $150,000. The city will have to match $75,000 if the grant is granted.

In other business, the council:

• approved a resolution to take the money spent on legal matters and other expenses and put it in a bond program;

• approved that the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade be held on Mon., Jan. 18, at 10 a.m.;

• approved the Ladies of Essence parade request for Feb. 6, at 1 p.m.; and,

• reappointed Shane Hadley to the board of adjustment.
