Man to be executed at Holman Thursday

Christopher Eugene Brooks, 44, will be executed by lethal injection at Holman Correctional Facility Thursday night, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.
Brooks was convicted in the 1992 murder and rape of Jo Deann Campbell.
According to reports, Brooks’ attorneys asked last week for an emergency stay of his execution until there is a decision on litigation challenging Alabama’s new lethal injection code. The Alabama Supreme Court denied his request.
In Brooks’ motion, which was denied, he claims the use of midazolam is unconstitutional, according to reports.
Under the new lethal injection code, the condemned will be administered three drugs — midazolam hydrochloride, rocuronium bromide and potassium chloride — separately and in order.
