Poarch home gets damaged after storms

As the winds howled, lightning struck and rain pattered Marianna Rolin’s rental home in Poarch on Thursday night, one of her children asked her to pray to God to help them go to sleep.

When Rolin woke up to her landlord calling and mother in law knocking at her front door, she saw the damage.

Her front porch had blown away.

“I don’t know when it happened,” Rolin said. “I didn’t wake up at all. My kids were scared.”

Rolin said she and her children, Chayton and Nyla, slept right through the storms, which produced gale-force winds, lightning and rain. A tornado watch was issued by the National Weather Service until 3 a.m. today, and it looks like there will be wind gusts as high as 30 miles per hour today and tonight.

Rolin said one of the pillars on her porch blew through her child’s bedroom window, but fortunately, no one was in the room at the time. In addition, one of her car windows was blown out.

Other than some water damage inside of her home and the doors having been blown off of the shed out back, Rolin said everybody’s fine.
