James Hilton “Junior” Hall has announced his candidacy for Escambia County Commissioner District 4.
Hall, a Canoe resident, served as the District 4 commissioner from 2000 to 2004. During that time, he obtained state certification from the Alabama Local Government Training Institute. Hall said his experience and training are the main reasons he believes he can help the county.
“I felt that by getting this knowledge it would help better serve the people in District 4 – and in turn, all the residents of Escambia County,” Hall said. “If elected again, I will aggressively purse funds for much-needed county improvements. The money will not come to the county. As a commissioner, it’s our job to seek it out.”
Hall describes himself as a self-employed farmer, which allows him a flexible schedule.
“I plan to use that time to travel where it is needed to secure the funds for this district,” he said.
Hall, who qualified on the Republican ticket, said he wants to return to the commission so he can help Escambia County achieve a brighter future.
“I would like very much to finish the projects that were left undone when I left office,” Hall said, speaking of multiple road projects within the district. “I am qualified and easily accessible to the people of District 4. I’m an honest man with strong integrity. If things are not the best for the majority of the taxpayers, then it’s not something that I am for.”
Hall and his wife, Alice Marie Philyaw, have two children – Shannon Naomi Chisler and Justin Tyler Hall, both of Crawfordville, Fla.
Hall is a member of Atmore First Assembly of God Church and is the past president of the Canoe Civic Club.
