City council approves $400K-plus road bid

The Atmore city council accepted a street resurfacing bid for $425,476 at its meeting on Monday night.
Atmore Mayor Jim Staff said the city accepted the low bid from H.O. Weaver and Sons, Inc., which is an asphalt company out of Mobile.
The resurfacing project is slated to cover the following streets and roads:
• Tatum
• Mobile
• Part of Carver that’s not paved
• Cloverdale; from Cloverdale to Craig Street on Sixth Avenue
• The south end of Pensacola Avenue
• The west end of McRae Street, in front of Country Place Senior Living
• Lindberg, from Highway 21 to Presley Street
• Craig Street.
In other business, the council:
• declared Sat., March 26, 2016, as Vietnam Veterans Day. Staff read a proclamation declaring the last Saturday in March to be named Vietnam Veterans Day;
• the Rosa Parks proclamation was read; and,
• tabled a business license request for Chik-A-Dee until the next council meeting.
