The Alabama State Fire Marshals is seeking the public’s help for information relating to two arsons that occurred within a week of each other.

In December 2015 and on Jan. 3, 2016, the former Flamingo Terrace, now Jenny’s Soul Kitchen, restaurant was set on fire. The first occurrence took place on Dec. 27.

State Fire Marshal Public Information Officer Steve Holmes said the marshal’s office is conducting an investigation to determine the cause and origin of both fires.

“We are still looking into this,” he said.

Holmes said if anybody has any information on the fires, they can call the Alabama Arson Hotline at 1-800-654-0775 or visit the marshal’s office online at www.firemarshal.alabama.gov.

Holmes said caller’s identities would be confidential.

“If it’s the biggest or the tiniest of leads, you can remain anonymous,” he said.

So far this year, there have been 21 deaths due to fires this year, Holmes said.

In two separate fires, nine people were killed as a result, he said.

Holmes said people should check their fire alarms and make sure there are fresh batteries in them; always grill in an open space; and keep combustible items away from space heaters or other heat sources in your home.
