Order restored at Holman; prison remains on lockdown

Order has been restored at Holman Correctional Facility after an inmate stabbed another this morning, according to an Alabama Department of Corrections press release.The ADOC sent in three Correctional Emergency Response Teams to Holman prison in responde to the inmate-to-inmate stabbing, which occurred at approximately 8:30 this morning. According to the ADOC, a makeshift weapon was used.

Corrections officers removed the victim from the dormitory where the stabbing occurred, and was later treated for non life threatening injuries.

“When officers tried to apprehend the suspect in the stabbing, they were met with resistance,” the press release said. “Prisoners became aggressive and barricaded themselves inside the dorm. Officers secured all sections of the prison to prevent the inmates inside the dorm from entering other parts of the facility.”

Some 70 inmates were in the dorm at the time of the incident. Inmates tried to take over the same form on Friday night, when 100 inmates were involved in a riot and set fire in an outter hallway.

The CERT teams regained control of the dorm at approximately 2:45 p.m.

“The inmates responsible for today’s disturbance were detained and moved to segregation,” the press release said. ” The dormitory is again secured and the prison remains on lockdown. No injuries to officers or inmates were reported.”
