Atmore man arrested for drugs, gun

An Atmore man was arrested last Thursday night for possession of drugs and a gun, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Chief Chuck Brooks said Roy D. James was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, altering a firearm and possession of a concealed weapon without a permit.

Brooks said APD Officer Buddy Traweek was on routine patrol traveling east on Liberty Street when he observed a vehicle driving erratic and running off the side of the road.

“Officer Traweek initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, who identified himself as Roy D. James,” he said.

Brooks said during the traffic stop investigation, officers discovered drug paraphernalia, scales, a clear plastic bag containing methamphetamine, a clear plastic bag containing cocaine, a silver .38-caliber pistol and several syringes.

James was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
