Vernon Madison is set to be executed at Holman Correctional Facility on May 12.

The Alabama Supreme Court handed down the order in April for the man who was convicted in 1985 for the death of a police officer in Mobile County.

Madison has been on death row since Nov. 12, 1985. He was convicted in September 1985 and sentenced to death for the April 18, 1985 slaying of Officer Julius Schulte.

Madison had three trials. The most recent was in 1994.

Madison’s execution comes more than three months after Christopher Eugene Brooks was executed by lethal injection on Jan. 21, 2016.
