Prisons still in lockdown

The William C. Holman Correctional Facility and the Elmore Correctional Facility still remain on lockdown after inmates are refusing to work in their designed jobs over the weekend, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.

“Inmates at the correctional facilities failed to report to work on Sunday by refusing to help corrections staff in preparing the morning meal,” Public Relations Manager Bob Horton said. “On Monday, inmates continued to disobey orders to report to their assigned jobs.”

Horton said one inmate at Holman and 14 inmates at the Elmore facility reported for kitchen detail on Tuesday morning.

“Another 15 inmates at Elmore were assigned to additional work details inside the facility and chapel,” he said.

Horton said the inmates didn’t give any demands or a reason for refusing to work.

“As a precaution, the correctional facilities are on lockdown with limited inmate movement while ADOC investigates the situation,” he said.
