Bennie Coley Roberson

Mr. Bennie Coley Roberson, 68, passed away on Fri., May 13, 2016, in Century, Fla.

He was a native of Flomaton and a resident of Brewton for the past 30 years. He was a friend and loved to help everyone. He worked for Freeze Gravel and Trucking.

He is preceded in death by his parents, W.C. and Molly Roberson; wife, Rosie Roberson; sister, Irene Jones; stepson, Ronald Conway; and grandson, Kevin Luke Crowder.

He is survived by one stepson, Leonard Conway of Stanley Crossroads; one step-daughter, Shelia Crowder of Gulfport, Miss.; two sisters, Etta Marie Lambeth and Frances Roberson, both of McDavid, Fla.; three grandchildren, Rhonda (Timothy) Rogers of Stanley Crossroads, Candi (William) Sheets of Bay Minette and Sabrina Hall of Ponce de Leon, Fla.; five great-grandchildren, Cheris Rogers, Rylee Rogers, Victoria Sheets, Cloe Sheets and John Luke Sheets; and one nephew, Joe D. Roberson of Opelika.

Funeral services were held Sun., May 15, 2016, from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Knowles serving as officiate. Burial followed at the Wildfork Cemetery.

Visitation was held May 15 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were James Emmons, Don Ward, Mike Brown, George Hendrix, John Hendrix and Logan Hendrix.

Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes LLC was in charge of all arrangements.

Jeffrey Paul Dawson

Jeffrey (Jeff) Paul Dawson, born July 17, 1969, passed away May 14, 2016, in Carrolton, Ga., where his wife, Peggy resides.

He previously lived in Walnut Hill, Fla. He graduated from Ernest Ward High School in 1987. He served in the Marine Corp.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John P. Dawson and Glores Dawson.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy; two brothers, John (JJ) and Travis Dawson; a special cousin, Terrel (Robin) Ard; and numerous other cousins, aunts and uncles.

A private funeral service will be held in Carrolton, Ga.

Johnny Ray Byrd

Mr. Johnny Ray Byrd, 59, passed away on Wed., May 11, 2016, in Mobile.

Mr. Byrd was a native and life-long resident of Perdido. He was in the class of 1974 at BCHS, he ran track, worked overseas for many years and attended Perdido First Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by a son, Rodney Keeling.

He is survived by his parents, Eubie and Iris Byrd of Perdido; wife, Beverly Byrd of Perdido; one daughter, Kayla Byrd Galloway of Perdido; one brother, Don Byrd of Rose Hill; one sister, Linda Carter of Nokomis; and two grandchildren, Zackary and Kori of Mayfield, Ky.

Visitation was held May 14, 2016, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes.

Kathryn Watford Stanley

Mrs. Kathryn Watford Stanley, 86, passed away on Mon., May 9, 2016, in Atmore.

She was born on Dec. 7, 1929, in Uriah, to Claude and Recie Gulsby Watford. She married Leonard Stanley on June 25, 1949, and resided in Atmore for the remainder of her life. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary; Brooks Memorial Baptist Church; and was a seamstress for the public for years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Recie Watford; one brother, Carl Watford; three sisters, Elizabeth Mills, Louise Day and Genise Franklin; and a great-granddaughter, Anna-Grace Stanley.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Leonard Stanley of Atmore; one son, Ronald Eugene Stanley of Atmore; one daughter, Carolyn Stanley (Charles) Woods of Atmore; one brother, James Watford of Crossroads; three grandchildren, Robbie (Jennifer) Stanley of Atmore, Sharlie (Ross) Terry of Atmore and Scotty (Toshia) Woods of Atmore; and three great-grandchildren, Robert Stanley, Colton Stanley and Ava Woods.

Funeral services were held May 12, 2016 from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Heard and the Rev. Mike Grindle serving as officiates.

Burial followed at the Serenity Garden Cemetery.

Visitation was held May 12 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Sammy Day, Randy Day, Billy Watford, Ricky Stanley, Greg Stanley and Garrie Singleton.

Honorary Pallbearers were Sarah Sunday School Class at Brooks Memorial Baptist Church and Atmore Memorial VFW Auxiliary.

Lakia McCarty

Infant Lakia McCarty, 4 months old, of Prichard, passed away May 11, 2016.

She is survived by her mother, Larisha McCarty of Prichard. Graveside services were held on Mon., May 16, 2016, from Prichard Memorial Cemetery with Mayberry Funeral Home Atmore Chapel in charge of arrangements.

Marie “Mandy” Hawkins

Marie “Mandy” Hawkins was born to the late Mattie L. Hawkins and Rufus Hawkins on Nov. 11, 1954, in Robinsonville.

She was a devoted mother, sister and friend. She was a faithful worker at David’s Catfish House in Atmore for the past seven years.

She attended Elizabeth Holiness Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Lee North; a son, Calvin Barnard Nichols; her parents, Mattie L. Hawkins and Rufus Hawkins; three brothers, J.C. Brown, Clemmie Brown and Luck Brown Jr.; and three sisters, Ruth Phillips, Ruby “Judy” Brown and Rosie Mae Dailey.

She is survived by one daughter, Pamela Richardson; two sons, Darron (Edith) Nichols and Stacy (Tifhanie) Hawkins; daughter in law, Meranda Nichols and daughter of her heart, Wanda Montgomery Mims; grandchildren, Travious Lucas, Shantel Richardson, Shynease Richardson, Deiona Howard, Aaliyah Nichols, Darriona Nichols, Darron Nichols Jr., Labarron Weaver, Jaylon Weaver, Calvin Nichols Jr., Stacy Johnson, Jasmine Johnson, Stacy Hawkins, Anthony Hawkins, Angela Hawins and Cornesie Payne; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Aubrey Hawkins of Atmore; two sisters, Katie Hall of Detroit, Mich. and Yvonne (Toney) Snowden of Dayton, Ohio; two sisters of her heart, Marcella “Monk” James of Atmore and Anita “Miles” Finklea of Atmore; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the chapel of Mayberry Funeral Home on Fri., May 20, 2016. Homecoming services will be held Sat., May 21, 2016, at 11 a.m. from Saints With a Vision Church with Elder Audrey America officiating.

Mayberry Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

Martha Verl Ellison

Martha Verl Ellison went home to be with the Lord May 4, 2016, in Seguin, Texas.

She was born on April 17, 1941, to the late Calarence and Eve Dilmore.

She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Billy, Shorty, Leah and Buena; husband, P.W. Ellison; son in law, Jimmy Powe; and grandchildren, David Gary Guy and Kyle Powe.

She is survived by four children, Joy Powe Gunn (Art Gunn), Belinda Shehan (Marvin Shehan), Lisa Colbert (James Colbert) and Scott Janes (JoAnn Janes); siblings, Herschel, Robert, Pat and Edna; 11 grandchildren, Chris Stacey (Jessica Stacey), Chad Stacey (Jenilee Stacey), Brandon Guy, T.J. Ashcraft (Kari Ashcraft), Troy Shehan, Cameron Janes, David Amerson (Dallas Amerson), Alexis Gibson (Derrek Gibson), Mercedes Janes Hard (Zach Hard); 13 grandchildren, Logan Stacey, Corbin Stacey, Kayden Stacey, Mattison Stacey, Kylee Rae Stacey, Jax Stacey, Bailey Guy, Brantley Guy, Blaze Thomas, Jacob Thomas, Caston Ashcraft, Zander Scott Hard and Axel David Amerson.

Funeral services were held Sat., May 14, 2016, from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Brandon Rowell serving as officiate. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

Otha Martin

Mr. Otha Martin, 86, passed away on Sat., May 7, 2016, in Poarch.

He was a native and life-long resident of Poarch. He was a member of St. Anna’s Episcopal Church of Poarch and the Poarch Creek Indians. He was a tugboat captain for 40 years, avid gardener and provided food for many people.

He is preceded in death by a son, Paul, who died as an infant; parents, Archie McGhee and Elsie Martin; one brother, Lavan Martin; and two sisters, Thelma Alice Amos and Helen Price.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marie Martin of Poarch; four sons, Lamar (Charlotte) Martin of Pensacola, Fla., Nathan (Susan) Martin of Atmore, Nelson Martin of Poarch and Sonny Kirkland of Wallace; one daughter, Pauline (Lamar) Wilson of Atmore; two brothers, Douglas (Shelby) Martin of Zion, Ill. and J.T. Holland of Poarch; two sisters, Jeanette (Ken) Beck of McCullough and Jean Ardis of Lottie; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and caregiver, Mary Poindexter.

Funeral services were held Wed., May 11, 2016, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Montgomery, the Rev. Josh Long and the Rev. Trevor Daughtry serving as officiates.

Burial was at the Judson Creek Indian Cemetery.

Visitation was held May 10 and the day of the funeral at the Poarch Community Church.

Pallbearers were Josh Martin, Josh Long, Brad Martin, Brandon Towe, Jonathan Martin, Tristan Montgomery and Jerry Faircloth.

Honorary pallbearers were Curtis Daily, Bobby Riley, Ken Beck, Don Absond, Randy Martin and Dino Rolin.
