A Walnut Hill, Fla. woman — in fear for her life — shot a man in the abdomen Tuesday night at a residence on the 5900 block of West Highway 4, according to the Escambia County (Fla.) Sheriff’s Office.

ECSO Public Information Officer Amber Southard said the shooting is an ongoing investigation.

“The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is working with the state attorney’s office to determine charges that might be filed against the male subject,” Southard said. “He was taken to a local hospital.”

Southard said no charges have been filed against the mother.

“She was in fear for her life and defending herself in a domestic violence type shooting,” Southard said.

Southard said the shooting occurred around 8:30 Tuesday night.

Names of both individuals haven’t been released, and the case is still under investigation. Charges are pending.
