The Atmore City Council approved a $7 million abatement to expand Masland Carpets at its meeting Tuesday.

The abatement will go toward the purchase and installation of additional head set and twisting equipment for the company’s yarn prep area, and the addition of EVA precoat equipment for carpet tile to be added to the current coater operation at the Atmore plant.

The upgrades will help create 16 new positions.
