Walkers participate in annual event Saturday

Supporters, cancer survivors and those fighting cancer participated in the Women of Distinction’s Walk-A-Thon “A Walk to the Park” Saturday in Atmore.

Participants began their walk near Gulf Winds and traveled down Presley Street to Lindberg, where the group ended at Tom Byrne Park.

While at the park, the Escambia County High School varsity cheerleaders cheered a fight cancer cheer and survivors, along with cancer fighters gave their testimonies.

“It’s been a great day,” Women of Distinction member Yolanda Webster said after the walk. “Our efforts target to help people in the community.”

Webster said the proceeds from the walk will go toward area patients’ gas card money for those who have to travel for treatment.

“We’re blessed to be able to help people outside of the area,” she said.

Each WOD member wore shirts to honor survivors, fighters and the fallen with #walkingforacure.
