Carolyn Virginia Brantley Rowland

Mrs. Carolyn Virginia Brantley Rowland, 74, of Flomaton, passed away on Mon., Nov. 14, 2016, in Pensacola, Fla.

She was a native of Flomaton and had been a lifetime member of the Flomaton community. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Flomaton.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Haywood Rowland of Flomaton; son, Malett (Julie) Rowland of Atmore; daughter, Bunkie (Gary) Murph of Atmore; grandchildren, Christopher (Eva) Rowland of Atmore, Jordan (Melanie) Rowland of Flomaton and Devon (Cody) Johnson of Pace, Fla.; Savannah Fullerton of Atmore, Addison White of Atmore and Brayson White of Atmore; and great-great-grandchildren, Skylar Crawford, Cameron Crawford and Bo Johnson.

Visitation was held on Nov. 17, 2016, at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services were held on Nov. 18 at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Pat Carden and Dr. Jerry Keese serving as officiates.

Interment followed in Pine Level Cemetery, in Jay, Fla.

Pallbearers were Dale Chavers, Randy Sims, Steve Stanton, Jimmy Johnson, David Johnson and Clint Rowland.

Honorary pallbearers were Walt Branson, Bud Lambeth, Wayne Henderson, Thomas Rowland, Kenny Cannon, Mickey Powell and Don Hammonds.

Charles Bates Moore Jr.

Mr. Charles Bates Moore Jr., 95, passed away on Sat., Nov. 19, 2016, in Atmore.

Mr. Moore was a native of Poarch, former resident of Midwest City, Okla. and has resided in Atmore for the past 16 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John Moore; one sister, Margaret Peevy; first wife, Lorane Hayles Norman; second wife, Lucile Jordan Moore; and one grandson, Jon Mark Moore.

The following was written by Mr. Moore:

“My career extended over three Air Force Bases. They are as follows: Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile, from 1942-1952. I transferred then to Norton Air Force Base in San Bernardino, Calif. I was then transferred to Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City in 1966. I retired from Tinker on Jan. 7, 1977.

During my tenure at Norton Air Force Base, I was promoted four times. The last four years I was there, I was promoted to chief of production control division. The last two years were exciting as we were bringing all Atlas ICBM to Norton for storage.

During my time at Tinker Air Force Base, I was assigned to two major jobs. One being the deputy chief of the aircraft shop and as deputy chief of the jet engine overhaul facility two different times.

During my career at Tinker, I received two Department of Air Force awards. The first was for meritorious civilian service, for the time period February 1971 to August 1972. The second award was for exceptional civilian service for the period from September 1973 to February 1975. I was one of three employees nominated for Department of Defense Distinguished Civil Service Award.”

He is survived by one son, Federic “Fred” B. (Betty) Moore of Bratt, Fla.; two daughters, Sara Margaret Bratt of Dothan and Hope (Pat) Downey of Mobile; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren; and extended family in Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be today, Wed., Nov. 23, 2016, at 11 a.m. from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Henry Wilson and the Rev. Sam Bratt officiating.

Burial will follow at the Judson Cemetery.

Visitation will be today, Nov. 23, from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Rick Twine, Pat Downey II, Fed Moore, Devan King, Blaine Gregg and Neil Baumann.

Joseph “Jake” Hatcher Jr.

Mr. Joseph “Jake” Hatcher Jr., 66, passed away on Wed., Nov. 16, 2016, in Atmore.

He was a native and former resident of Pensacola, Fla., and has resided in Atmore since 1992. He was a member of the IBEW Union of Pensacola, former Mason, Shriner and was an avid drag racer. He was of the Baptist Faith.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Betty Hatcher.

He is survived by his wife, Shelby Chavers Hatcher of Atmore; one son, Joseph Crawford “Jody” (Kim) Hatcher III of Pace; one step-son, Michael (Kathy) Chavers of Century, Fla.; one step-daughter, Libby Chavers (Ryan) Wright of Jacksonville, Ariz.; one brother, Jimmy (Cindy) Hatcher of Pensacola; one sister, Beth Hatcher of Pensacola; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Nov. 19, 2016 from the  Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Kathy Chavers and Jim Brown officiating.

Visitation was held Nov. 19 from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers were Michael Dean, Josh Caraway, Terry Caraway, Darrell Richardson, Anthony Richardson, Hubert Smith, Doug Patterson, Nolan Baker, Eugene Caraway and Mark Mack.

Obie Lee McGhee

Mr. Obie Lee McGhee, 88, passed away on Sat., Nov. 19, 2016, in Pensacola, Fla.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Atmore. He was of the Baptist Faith.

He is preceded in death by two wives, Zollie Mae McGhee and Nona McGhee; one brother; and two sisters.

He is survived by his four sons, Odell (Yvette) McGhee of Atmore, Marion (Janet) McGhee of Atmore, Melvin “Bo” (Robin) McGhee of Uriah and Delbert (Paula) McGhee of Auburndale, Fla.; four daughters, Gearldine McGhee of Atmore, Brenda Sue (Terry) Hupp of Jacksonville, Fla., Brenda Lee Deal of Eagle Lake, Fla. and Linda (Steve) Parrish of Winter Haven, Fla.; special companion, Paige Lyman of Mobile; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held today, Wed., Nov. 23, 2016, at 3 p.m. from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Walter Lee Rolin officiating.

Burial will follow at the Poplar Springs Cemetery.

Visitation will be today, Nov. 23, from 2 p.m. until service time at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Jackson McCall, Jason McCall, Cody McGhee, Kevin McGhee, Brent McGhee, Scotty White, Joseph Hupp and Randal Boutwell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron Thompson, Brandon Peavy and Keith Carter.

Veda Mae Welch

Mrs. Veda Mae Welch, 94, of Brewton, passed away on Fri., Nov. 11, 2016, in a Pensacola health care facility.

She was a native of Jay, Fla. and had been a lifetime resident of the Brewton community, where she was a homemaker and a member of Halls Creek Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William D. Griffis and Annie Laura Ballard Griffis; her brothers, Ervin Griffis, Spence Griffis, Earl Griffis, J.D. Griffis, Glennis Griffis and two infant brothers; sisters, Amye Brantley, Della Godwin and one infant sister; husband, Robert Cyril Welch; son, Douglas Leon Welch Sr.; and daughter, Judy Diane Welch.

She is survived by her sons, Cyril Lenell (Amy) Welch of Brewton and Tommy Raymond (Carol) Welch of Andalusia; daughter, Nancy Jane Welch Johnson of Chula vista, Calif.; sister, Annie Jean Clark of Bratt, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and special daughter-in-law, Aline Welch.

Visitation was held on Nov.13 at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services were held on Nov. 14 at Flomaton Funeral Home with the Rev. Waylon Stuckey officiating.

Interment followed in Pineview Cemetery, Brewton.

Pallbearers were Robert Welch, Jake Garner, Shane Garner, Drew Welch, Danny Godwin and Ronnie Griffis.
