AFD’s toy drive was something to behold

Walking around the corner at Walmart Saturday morning, there was quite an entourage helping raise money for the Atmore Fire Department’s annual Heroes for Christmas Toy Drive.

Black Widow, Batman, Spiderman, Capt. America, Batgirl and The Grinch were on hand for pictures with youngsters and fans for the effort.

As customers left the store, they’d drop off toys for local kids who are in need, or they’d slip in a few dollars for the purchase of toys.

It was a pretty cool thing to see little kids’ eyes light up when they spotted their favorite super hero. For me, I’m partial to Batman. However, I would love to have seen Green Lantern. Maybe, next time.

The cosplayers were based out of Mobile and the surrounding area. Black Widow (Martha Howard of Little Red Fox Cosplay) said the group goes and helps with fundraisers quite often.

Capt. Jeremy Blackmon said the AFD has been holding this toy drive between nine to 10 years.

Kudos to the AFD for holding this drive for local kids who will be getting something under the tree this year.
