City, PCI hold annual parades

Thousands lined Main Street for Atmore’s annual Twilight Christmas Parade Saturday night.

Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sheryl Vickery said she thought the parade went well.

“Riding in it on the train, by the crowd, everybody I saw today (Monday), said there was a massive crowd,” Vickery said.

Vickery said including those who walked in the parade, there were 60-plus entries.

Parade winners were announced following the event at Escambia County High School.

The winners include:

• Reason for the Season award, Unity Baptist

• Overall award, 10th Planet

• Movie Theme award, Southern Care Hospice

• Spirit award, United Bank

• President’s award, K-9 Kleaners

• Mayor’s award, Poarch Gaming

Vickery said the parade’s a lot of hard work, but it’s worth it in the end.

“When you use all of the kids, and everybody out, it’s worth the effort you put into it,” she said.

During the Poarch Creek Indians’ Christmas Parade, area residents lined Calvin McGhee Dr. for the festivities.

Several floats and entrants threw out a bundle of candy for those who turned out.
