Christopher Walker doesn’t have to shop for cars anymore.

Walker won a 2006 Pontiac G6 GT after registering minutes before the Chuck Stevens Chevrolet of Atmore’s Free Car Giveaway on Dec. 21.

The Escambia County High School teacher and coach first learned about the giveaway some 30 minutes prior to the drawing, which was held in front of a large crowd at 4 p.m.

“I was literally sitting at the house — we had wrapped up practice,” Walker said. “My mother called me at 3:32 prior to the drawing.”

Walker and his aunt, Stephanie Buitron, also a teacher at ECHS, went to the local dealership for the drawing. Walker submitted his entry between 5-10 minutes before his name was called.

Winning a car came at the right time for Walker because while a student at Auburn University, he had a vehicle stolen from him in 2011.

“I’m a recent grad trying to get on my feet and in my career,” he said. “It feels great. I’ve been shopping for cars, and figuring out how to get insurance. Winning one is amazing.”

When the drawing was held, Walker talked with his mom over the phone, who at first, didn’t believe that he had won car.

Stevens even chimed in over the speakerphone to confirm the good news.

With the giveaway, Walker didn’t have to pay taxes or any fees for the car. All was handled by Chuck Stevens Chevrolet.

Best Christmas present, ever?

“Hit the nail on the head,” Walker said.
