Between 7-8 inches of rain fell in Atmore during the New Year Holiday period, according to officials.

David Adams, director of the Escambia County Emergency Management Agency, said Tuesday that there weren’t any reports of damage that came in to his office.

Adams said for the county, the lightest amount of rain fell between 5-6 inches over half of the county. The rainfall totals are based on a seven-day period.

“There was one little spot in the Perdido area and one in the northcentral corner that showed 10-plus (inches),” he said.

Adams said in the northwest corner, in the Poarch, Huxford and McCullough areas, some 8-plus inches of rain fell.

On New Year’s Eve, rain poured down on Atmore, and the weather trended through Jan. 1 and into Monday.

The National Weather Service out of Mobile reported several severe thunderstorm warnings, tornado warnings and watches and flood warnings for the area.

With any rainy and windy weather that comes through the area, a cold front comes soon afterward.

Jeffrey Medlin, a meteorologist with the NWS, said cold weather is slated for the rest of the week.

“This type of weather pattern isn’t surprising when one extreme brings another,” he said. “We’re in a time of the year where we have a very active weather pattern. You have these long warm air bands ahead and then a cold air band that comes behind.”

Here is the forecast through Saturday:

• Thursday — high of 59 degrees, low of 36 tomorrow night

• Friday — high of 49 degrees, low of 32 degrees Friday night

• Saturday — high of 44 degrees, low near 27 degrees Saturday night

According to the NWS, there is a 50 percent chance of showers on Friday night.
