A convoy of 33 new school buses rolled into Escambia County Friday afternoon, with 16 of them slated to service Atmore.

Mona Simmons, director of human resources and transportation for the Escambia County Board of Education, said the other 17 buses will service the west end of the county in Brewton. Simmons said the addition of the buses is a big deal for the school district.

“This is a big day for us,” Simmons said. “We certainly appreciate our board (of education) for allowing us to do this.”
