Luther Thames

Mr. Luther Thames, 55 a resident of Bay Minette passed away on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017 at his residence.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral hour from the New Jerusalem Pentecostal Holiness Church in Bay Minette with Bishop Charles Johnson officiating. Interment will be held in Mutual Aid Cemetery in Bay Minette.

Ruby Hanks Lowrey

Ruby Hanks Lowrey, 88, of Atmore passed away Fri., Feb. 10, 2017, at her residence.

Lowrey was born May 8, 1928, in Bratt, Fla. to the late John William and Ola Mae Busby Hanks. She was a graduate of Ernest Ward High School. She married H.C. Lowrey on July 11, 1955. She was a bookkeeper for Fayard Construction, where she later retired. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Atmore and a member of the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class. She was a great and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a faithful volunteer with the Atmore Community Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by two sons, Eddie (Nancy) Lowrey of Atmore and Tommy (Alisa) Lowrey of Repton; two grandsons, Robert (Destin) Lowrey of Atmore and Johnathan (Brandy) Dotson of Irvington; two granddaughters, Sara L. (Raymond) Hanser of Lucedale, Miss. and Rebekah Lowrey of Pell City and her great-grandchildren, Dillon Lowery and Jeremiah Dotson.

Funeral services were held Sun., Feb. 12, 2017 from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Arnold Hendrix officiating. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Johnathan Dotson, Robert Lowrey, Dillon Lowrey, Gary Todd, George McGhee and Raymond Hanser, III.

Visitation was held Sun., Feb. 12 from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church Library Fund or Atmore Community Hospital Auxiliary.

Zachary Thomas Barrow

Mr. Zachary Thomas Barrow, 23, passed away on Wed., Feb. 8, 2017 in Pensacola, Fla.

He was a native of Pensacola, Fla. and has resided in Century, Fla. most of his life. He was a substitute teacher and baseball coach at Northview High School. He was a member of the Faith Bible Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Joanna Barrrow and grandparents, Hubert and Dorothy Arrington.

He is survived by his father, Pastor Robert Barrow of Century; fiancé, Lauren Ashley McCall of Walnut Hill, Fla.; grandparents, Royce (Peggy) Barrow of Century and two brothers, Ryne (Bethany) Barrow of Bratt and Kevin (Courtney) Barrow of Century.

Funeral services were held Sat., Feb. 11, from the Faith Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Robert Barrow officiating.

Burial followed at the Ray’s Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation was held Fri., Feb. 10 at the Faith Bible Baptist Church.

Pallbearers were Kevin Vaughn, Jamie Gafford, Chad Smith, David Burkett, Tanner Brooks and Brian Ross.

Jack Allen Johnson

Jack Allen Johnson, 61, formerly of Canoe and now of Semmes passed away Sat., Feb. 4, 2017, in Semmes.

Johnson worked at Vanity Fair Mills in Atmore before moving to Mobile, where he worked for Carondolet Apartments of Mobile as a Maintenance supervisor. Johnson was born on April 25, 1955, in Atmore to the late Leon Douglas and Georgene Lee Johnson. He attended New Beginnings Church of Theodore.

Johnson is survived by his wife, Denise Baustert Johnson of Semmes; two brothers, Buster Johnson and Ed (Sondra) Johnson, all of Robertsdale; two sisters, Jeanne (Frankie) Baggett of Loxley, and Jackie Southall of McConnelsville, Ohio; five nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces and great nephews.

Services were held Thurs., Feb. 9, 2017 with the Rev. Ed Boutwell officiating.

Interment followed in Canoe Freewill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Jason Baggett, Doug Baggett, Kyle Johnson, Russ Johnson, Murphy Bryan and Korbin Bryan.

The family received friends Wed., Feb. 8 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Helen Cartwright Morris

Mrs. Helen Cartwright Morris, 70, passed away on Tues., Feb. 7, 2017, in Century, Fla.

She was a native of Pensacola, Fla. and resided in the Century, Fla. and Jay, Fla. areas most of her life. She was a past member of the Brownsdale Women’s Club and a troop leader with Girl Scouts and Brownies. Morris was a sponsor and very active with Special Olympic in Santa Rosa County and a cake decorator. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Cora Lee Cartwright; two sisters, Mavis Johnson and Judy Macks ; a brother, Lavon Cartwright; the father of her children, Alton A. Morris Sr.; a son, Alton Morris Jr.; grandson, Steven Lee Morris; a special nephew, Joshua Cartwright and sister-in-law, Carolyn Cartwright.

She is survived by her three daughters, Angie Dybowski (Timothy) of Flomaton, Tammy Gresham (Randy) of Brewton and Sarah Ogle (Bryan) of Flomaton; three brothers, Eugene Cartwright (Cheryl) of Wilmington, Calif., Rufus Cartwright (Deborah) of Saraland and Jerry Cartwright of Milton, Fla.; two sisters, Wyvonne Pantermuehl of New Braunfels, Texas and Eloise Rushing (Don) of Pensacola; nine grandchildren, Tiffany, Robert, Heather, Stacy, Evan, Jonny, Victoria, Ryan and Brooke; ten great grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law by love, Wanda and Russell Peacock and a special nephew, Donnie (Deanna) Macks.

Funeral services were held Mon., Feb. 13, 2017, at 2 p.m. from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Carnley officiating.

Burial followed at Green Acres Cemetery.

Visitation was held Sun., Feb. 12, 2017, from 6:30 until 8 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Evan Amacher, Jonny Morris, Donnie Macks, Rusty Peacock, Cody Haveard and Robert Macks.

Honorary pallbearers were Edward Macks, Lane Macks, Austin Macks and Bubba Harris.

Helene Matetlida Whittington

Mrs. Helene Matetlida Whittington, 82, passed away on Thurs., Feb. 9, 2017, in Mobile.

She was a native of La Chapelle-aux-Chasses, France and has resided in Bay Minette most of her life.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Andree Arthur; one brother, Gerard Ressort and two great-grandchildren.

She is survived by husband, Donald Whittington of Bay Minette; children, Chris  (Shirley) Whittington of Talladega, William  (Elaine) Whittington of Bay Minette and Debbie (Andy) Wasdin of Bay Minette; seven grandchildren, Amanda  (Jerry) Walton of Talladega, David Whittington of Bay Minette, Casey  (Mary) Whittington of Thompson Station, Tenn., Chase Whittington of Bay Minette, Chelsea Wasdin of Montgomery, Jennifer (Heath) Bryars of Bay Minette and Adam (Kristin) Wasdin of Bay Minette; 13 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Paulette Ressort and Arlette Ressort, both of France.

Graveside services were held Sat., Feb. 11, 2017 from the Lottie New Home Cemetery.

Visitation was held Sat., Feb. 11, 2017 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Mike Owens, David Whittington, Chase Whittington, Casey Whittington, Adam Wasdin and Heath Bryars.

Mrs. Cynthia Elizabeth McCullough Stallworth, 59, passed away Sun., Feb. 5, 2017, in Pensacola, Fla.

She was a native of Atmore and has resided in Bratt, Fla. for the last 20 years. She was a member of the Dry Springs Community Church.

She is survived by her parents, the Rev. Jack and Margaret McCullough of Walnut Hill, Fla.; husband, Tony Killam of Bratt, Fla.; three daughters, Ladana Robinson of Molino, Fla., Jackie Rolin of Atmore and Shana Killam of Atmore; one brother, Malcolm (Donna) McCullough of Milton, Fla.; one sister, LaJauna (Robert) Graham of Tylertown, Miss.; four grandchildren, Ashton Thomas, Brantlie Thomas, Paige Ross and Cotton Lee Ross and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Fri., Feb. 10, 2017, at 2 p.m. from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. John Coleman officiating.

Burial followed at the Dry Springs Cemetery.

Billy Joe Gibson

Mr. Billy Joe Gibson, 70, passed away Fri., Feb. 10, 2017, in Poarch.

Gibson was a native and lifelong resident of Poarch. He was a member and employee with Poarch Band of Creek Indians. He was a collector of antique cars, a loving husband, father and grandfather and loved his family and the outdoors. He was a member of the Poarch Community Church.

He is survived by his wife, Nadine Gibson of Poarch; two sons, Steve Gibson of Bratt, Fla. and Kevin Gibson of Montgomery; two daughters, Emily Lee Tullis and Sandy Presley, both of Nokomis, Fla.; two step-daughters, Pam Evans of Dothan and Terry Eddins of Atmore; one brother, Earl Smith of Atmore and 15 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held today, Wed., Feb. 15, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the Poarch Community Church with the Rev. Johnny Stabler officiating.

Burial will follow at the Judson Creek Indian Cemetery.

Visitation was held Tues., Feb. 14, 2017, from 6 p.m. until service time at 10 a.m. at the Poarch Community Church.

Pallbearers will be William Andrew “Drew” Eddins, John Boyette, Rayford Tuberville, Christopher Blackburn, Shane Gibson and Michael McGhee.

Mr. John Alfred Johnson Sr., 68, passed away Mon., Feb. 6, 2017, in Atmore.

He was a native of Mobile and has resided in McDavid, Fla. for the last 20 years. He was of the Holiness Faith.

He is survived by his wife, Cecelia “C.K.” Johnson of Pensacola, Fla.; one son, John Alfred Johnson Jr. of Bay Minette; two sisters, Lena Byrd of Huxford and Maxine Welch of Rabun; one grandson, Nathan Thompson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thurs., Feb. 9, from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Sister Helen Stewart officiating.

Burial followed at the Sullivan Cemetery.

Visitation was held Wed., Feb. 8 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
