An Atmore man is dead and law enforcement officials are looking for a suspect in the killing after 20-year-old Donta Demorris Russell was found shot to death Wednesday night.

According to officials with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call was placed at approximately 10:16 p.m. reporting shots having been fired and a possible domestic incident in progress on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Atmore. Deputies arrived on the scene to find a Crown Victoria sedan parked partially in the road and resting against a tree. Inside they found Russell with “obvious gunshot wounds to his person,” according to officials.

According to information released by ECSO, Russell, of 176 Patterson Street, was the only occupant of the car and was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency medical personnel.
