Creek Travel Plaza (CTP) was voted as the top independent truck stop in America, recently.

The truck stop was ranked by the Trucker Path mobile app. Last year, the CTP landed just inside the top 25, ranking as the 24th best truck stop in the nation, according to the Creek Indian Enterprises Development Authority.

CTP General Manager Tammy Smith said she was thrilled when she heard of the good news.

“I have some hardworking people here,” Smith said. “We work hard to make sure customer service is the best of the best. They do a great job.”

According to a press release, this ranking was the first time CTP scored high enough to be included in the app’s ranking of the top 100 truck stops in the country.

CTP opened in 2012 and is an independent truck stop.

Additionally, CTP was also ranked overall as the No. 2 truck stop in the country, and for the second year as the top-ranked truck stop in Alabama.

Smith said they keys to their success lie in what the truck stop offers.

“We keep everything real clean,” she said. “We have full showers for them. We have a truckers lounge, and we have a 24-hour diner. That helps a lot.”

Smith said CTP has plenty of parking, too.

“It’s a good combination,” she said.

While earning this recognition is a good one, the truck stop’s next goal is to be voted the No. 1 stop in the country.

“We’re going to keep doing the same thing we keep doing,” Smith said. “We just make sure they feel welcome and want to come back.”

The rankings are compiled based on feedback and reviews from over 500,000 truck drivers who use the Truck Path app, which lists over 6,000 truck stops nationwide. The Trucker Path survey found that drivers preferred places that have abundant parking, clean bathrooms and facilities, laundry services, free Wi-Fi and good diesel prices. Truck stops that have restaurants with high food quality and sit down service, such as the diner at CTP, scored the best regarding what users are looking for in a truck stop.

The truck stops are rated using a 0-5 point scale.  The number one truck stop nationally, located in Texas, scored a 4.861 rating. CTP’s score was 4.773.  Only time will tell, but with this close of a margin, it could very well be that next year Atmore’s Creek Travel Plaza may indeed achieve the ranking of the number one truck stop in the country.
