Miss Deborah Law, 51, of Atmore, entered eternal sleep on Sun., May 21, 2017, at Atmore Nursing Care Center.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow, Thurs., May 25, 2017, at a local cemetery with Turner Funeral Chapel LLC directing.

Dottie Hayes Burdick

Dottie Hayes Burdick, 92, of Atmore, passed away on Sun., May 21, 2017, in Atmore.

She was a homemaker, and was born in Monroe County on July 7, 2017 to the late Riley and Grace David Hayes.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph Burdick; one son, Donald Hadley; and 10 brothers and sisters.

Survivors are one daughter, Imogene Boyington of Atmore; one sister, Gracie Mae Keymon of Tennessee; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 31 great-great grandchildren; and four great-great-great grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today, Wed., May 24, 2017, from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral

Home Chapel with Sis. Helen Stewart officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers are Jimmie Boyington, J.D. Boyington, Dustin Boyington, Billy Jr. Davis,

Ashley Salter and Joe Smith. Honorary pallbearer is Logan Dale Reeve.

Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service time today at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Ella Mae “Pat” Burson

Mrs. Ella Mae “Pat” Burson, 86, of Frisco City, passed away on Sun., May 21, 2017.

She was a native of Baltimore, Md. and was a member of Mexia Methodist Church.

Mrs. Burson was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Fitzpatrick and Ruth Pumphrey Fitzpatrick; husband, George Burson; and one son, Pete Rabon.

She is survived by two sons, Walter (Sharon) Rabon of Atmore and Robert (Sandy) Burson of Mexia; three daughters, Laura (Wayne) Redditt of Uriah, Ellen (Donald) Jay of Uriah and Darlene (Blair) Odle of Texas; two sisters, Nancy Tyson of Escatawpa, Miss. and Evelyn Shiver of Baltimore; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held May 23, 2017, from Johnson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wed., May 24, at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Mexia Cemetery with Johnson Funeral Home directing.

Ernest Ervin Hadley

Mr. Ernest Ervin Hadley, 73, passed away on Mon., May 15, 2017, in Mobile.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Stockton. He was a veteran in the U.S. Army and was of the Holiness Faith.

He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas E. Hadley; and mother, Rachel Hadley Stewart.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Stacey Hadley of Stockton; one daughter, Tina Lynn Hadley of Stockton; one brother, David Hadley of Stockton; two sisters, Doris and Robert Ramer of Perdido and Elsie and James Bryars of Perdido; one granddaughter, Amber Stacey; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held May 20, 2017, from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Sanks and the Rev. Michael Hadley officiating.

Burial followed at Dean Cemetery.

Visitation was held May 20 from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Johnny Ramer, Jimmy Ramer, James L. Bryars, Jim Bo Brown, Marty Hadley and Robert Danny Hadley.

Honorary pallbearer was Mason Hadley.

Terrell Da’Mante Deese

Infant Terrell Da’Mante Deese, 3 months, of Atmore, was called to be with the Lord on Sun., May 7, 2016, in Atmore.

Born Feb. 1, 2017, in Terrell’s short life, he brought much sunshine and joy to his family.

He is survived by his mother, Ky’Tara Deese of Pensacola, Fla.; his grandparents, Tiffany (William) Lewis and Edmond Deese, all of Atmore; great-grandparents, Patricia Rothchild Grace of Atmore and William Burton of Sumter, S.C.; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and other family.

Funeral services were held May 18 in the Longmire-Jones Memorial Chapel of Turner Funeral Chapel with Overseer Darryl North officiating. Inhumation was in Stallworth Cemetery with Turner Funeral Chapel LLC directing.

 

Janie Blackmon Dews

Mrs. Janie Blackmon Dews, 70, passed away on Mon., May 15, 2017, in Pensacola, Fla.

She was a native of Bratt, Fla., former resident of Pensacola and has resided in Cantonment, Fla. for the past year. She was a veteran of the U.S. Army, hospice volunteer and a member of the Central Chapel.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Willie Thomas Dews; parents, George and Leonora Blackmon; sister and brother in law, Louise and Joe Sanders; sisters, Connie Garrity and Winnie Blackmon; brother in law, Bernie Wiggins; and daughter in law, Julia Castillo.

She is survived by her four sons, Mark Castillo of Long Island, N.Y., Christopher Shane Castillo of Long Island, Craig (Dawn Marie) Castillo of Long Island and Heath (Brittany) Dews of Pensacola; one daughter, Carissa (Kyle) Sheppard of Cantonment, Fla.; one sister, Florine Wiggins of Bratt; and six grandchildren, Amanda Castillo, Jessica Castillo, Craig Castillo, Mark Castillo, Domnik Gunderson and Aiden Dews.

Funeral services were held May 19 from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Clayton McCormick and the Rev. Rick Maharrey officiating.

Burial followed at the Godwin Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Johnny Lacy, Jarrod “Bubba” Long, B.J. Long, Justin Long, David Torrence III and Jarrett Nelson.

Marvin Jerry Haynie

Mr. Marvin Jerry Haynie, 79, passed away on Wed., May 17, 2017, in Pensacola, Fla.

He was a native and former resident of Anniston and has resided in Century, Fla. for the past 59 years. He was a veteran in the U.S. Navy, retired from Century Correctional Facility and was an avid fisherman. He was a member of the Bratt First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Doris York Haynie of Bratt; two sons, Stanley Earl Haynie of Bratt and Marvin “Tony” (Kathy) Haynie Sr. of Bratt; one brother, Johnnie Winnie of Anniston; four grandsons, Brandon Haynie, Derek Haynie, Clayton Stacey and Marvin “T.J.” Haynie Jr.; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held May 22 from the Bratt First Baptist Church with Mr. Tom Smith officiating.

Burial followed at the Godwin Cemetery.

Visitation was held May 22 at Bratt First Baptist Church.

Pallbearers were T.J. Haynie, Luke McDaniel, Troy Clemmons, Earl Garrett, Edward Gillman and Romeo Coleman.

Michael John McKenzie

Michael John McKenzie, 29, of Atmore, passed away on Sun., May 21, 2017, in Atmore.

He was a warehouse worker with PCI, born in Mobile on Sept. 25, 1987 to Troy Francis and Tammy Lynam McKenzie.

He is preceded in death by his father, Troy Francis McKenzie; a brother, William McKenzie; and

a cousin, Timothy “Gooley” Hayes Jr.

Survivors are his wife, Jessica McIlwain McKenzie; his mother, Tammy (Chris Burklund)

McKenzie; grandmother, Bonnie Brown; step-father, Skeeter Crochet Sr.; children, Shawn,

Hunter, Hailey and Kailey McKenzie; brothers, Stephen (Dana) McKenzie, Nathan “Lil Shane”

Powell and Skeeter “Bug” Crochet Jr.; one sister, Ashely McKenzie; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Thurs., May 25, 2017, from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Malcom Harrelson and Bro. Keith Lisenby officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Wed., May 24, 2017, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Sylvester “LB” Benjamin

Mr. Sylvester “LB” Benjamin, 87, of Enterprise, formerly of Little River, answered the Master’s Call on Fri., May 12, 2017, at Enterprise Health and Rehabilitation Center.

A native of Little River, he was self employed in the timber and logging industry.

Those left to cherish memories of his life are his two daughters, Connie (William) Lanier of Enterprise and Minister Carmen Welker-Williams of Bay Minette; one son, Jamie (Brenda) Welker of Perdido; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral service was held May 20 from the Longmire-Jones Memorial Chapel of Turner Funeral Chapel with Dr. Bernard Bishop officiating. Retirement of his remains was in Stallworth Cemetery with Turner Funeral Chapel LLC as director.

 

Thelma H. Heathcock

Thelma H. Heathcock 82, of Walnut Hill, Fla., passed away on Thurs., May 18, 2017, at her residence.

She was retired as a payroll secretary employed by Southland/Frontier Telephone Co., born in Nokomis, Fla. on April 3, 1935, to the late Jake and Bessie Joyner Holloingsworth.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jeffery Heathcock; and a brother, Eldred

Hollingsworth.

Survivors are one son, John (Maryanne) Heathcock of Walnut Hill; two brothers,

Paul (Linda) Hollingsworth of Robertsdale and Dewayne (Barbara) Hollingsworth of Enon, Fla.; a sister in law, Pat Hollingswoth of Nokomis; grandchildren, Talana (Rickey) Smith, Riverly Heathcock and Bowyn Heathcock; and special caretaker, Debbie Weaver.

Services were held at May 22 from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Pete Coon officiating. Interment followed in Hollingsworth Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Steve Gibson, Bodie Tullis, Wayne Robinson, Kevin Spence, Miles Hollingsworth, Sean O’ Connor and Robert Hollingsworth.

Family received friends May 22 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Willie W. Saucer

Mr. Willie W. Saucer, age 85, of Goodway, passed away on Fri., May 5, 2017, at his home.

Mr. Saucer, a lifelong resident of Monroe County, was a member of Excel Assembly of God Church. He was a farmer of his own land for many, many years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ulan Saucer and Delia Rigby Saucer.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie Rae Saucer of Goodway; his son, Wesley Ray Saucer and wife Ruth of Uriah; his daughter, Sheila Saucer Johnson; husband David of Goodway; two brothers, Floyd Saucer and wife, Jeanette of Goodway, and Kenneth Saucer and wife, Myra Ann of Goodway; five grandchildren, David Saucer and wife, Andrea, Scott Saucer and wife, Elizabeth, Katherine Johnson Burchell and husband, Ryan, Andrew Johnson and wife, Stephanie and Olivia Johnson House; and husband, Kevin; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on May 8 from Excel Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Allen Robinson and the Rev. Billy House officiating. Burial followed in Union Cemetery in Frisco City. Visitation was held May 7 at the church.
