Each suspect is being held on $1M bond, still in jail

Three people have been arrested for the alleged sexual assault of a teenager, according to Atmore police officials.

Mary Lue Daw, 66, of Atmore, has been charged with rape I and human trafficking I; and Charles Clarence Stacey, 87, also of Atmore, has been charged with rape I, human trafficking I, promoting prostitution I and enticing a child for immoral purposes, according to the Escambia County Detention Center. According to reports, Daw is the victim’s grandmother, and Stacey is Daw’s boyfriend.

Chief Chuck Brooks declined to comment on July 24 on any specifics about the case as it is an ongoing investigation.

However, Brooks said that the victim’s mother, Melissa Deann Stoker, 37, was also arrested and has been charged with human trafficking I, endangering the welfare of a child and contributing to the delinquency of a child.

“We’re conducting an investigation of a sexual assault victim in conjunction with the Alabama Department of Human Resources, the Escambia County Department of Human Resources and the Escambia County Children’s Advocacy Center,” he said.

Brooks said the victim is 13 years old.

Daw, Stacey and Stoker are still being held in the detention center on bonds totaling $1,000,000 each.
