The Atmore Rotary Club made a sizable donation to the Ronald McDonald House and Share-A-Night fund recently.
The club donated more than $300 in items to the house’s wish list, and $350 to the Share-A-Night fund. Each week, the Ronald McDonald House has a wish list people use on a regular basis. The list is updated each week based on what family’s needs are.
Many families travel far from home and spend several weeks or months to get treatment for their seriously ill or injured children. The Ronald McDonald House is that home away from home for families so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little or no cost, according to the Ronald McDonald House’s website.
Last week, club members took items to fellow club member Sarah Frances Thompson, who had a baby who was born at 28 weeks. Thompson’s baby is being cared for in the NICU at USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital in Mobile, and will be staying there for an indefinite amount of time.
The Ronald McDonald House asks families to pay $12 a night, and the Share-A-Night fund is there to aid families who can’t afford the fee.
