City plays host to more than 400 swimmers

The city of Atmore’s summer swimming season went well, organizers said last week.

Austin Rogers, swimming lessons coordinator, said the program, which holds sessions throughout the summer for kids in various ages, said some 400 kids participated in the program.

During the first session, groups from A.C. Moore Elementary and Escambia County Middle School participated in the session, which was sponsored by a 21st Century Grant.

Rogers said the basics of swimming was taught during each session.

“It’s so important for a child to learn how to swim,” she said.

In addition to swimming lessons, the city’s program offers diving classes, water aerobics and lap swimming.

Rogers said the swimming lessons program lasts until Aug. 4.
