Firefighter indicted on sex charges

An Atmore man has been indicted by a grand jury on sex charges, according to officials.

Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks said his department started an investigatioan in January in conjunction with the Alabama Department of Human Resources and the Escambia County Child Advocacy Center.

“Basically, the victim disclosed information concerning sexual assault; communication and basically it went from there to presenting it to a grand jury, and the grand jury indicted him,” Brooks said.

Michael Wood, a former Poarch firefighter, posted a $250,000 bond after turning himself into the Escambia County Detention Center. His charges are sodomy II, rape II and enticing a child under the age of 16 for immoral purposes.
