Escambia County Habitat for Humanity hopes to hold its final demolition day for the East Craig Street renovation, officials said.

The demolition was partially completed last month with the help of APSO (Alabama Power Service Organization) volunteers.

“We are very happy with the work already done,” said Lisa Tindell, executive director for ECHFH. “However, we still have a long way to go to be ready for the re-building on this project.”

Tindell said this day of demolition will hopefully complete the process of prepping for work to be done by a contractor in the near future.

“We are hoping to get out the rest of the walls, the ceiling and floors of this home on Saturday,” Tindell said. “Once the inside of the house is gutted, we will turn over the work to our contractor on this project.”

The work to be completed by the contractor will end with a completely renovated home, Tindell said.

“We may need some volunteers toward the end of the renovations,” Tindell said. “We may need some help with touch-up painting, cleaning and getting the home ready a new family. We will also be needing some help with landscaping work with cleaning, planting and sprucing up the property. We hope to have enough folks to complete this part of the project so that we can get the yards cleaned up,” Tindell said. “The demolition  has been messy work and we certainly don’t want to be a nuisance to the neighbors.”

Tindell said anyone who wishes to volunteer may pre-register by calling the Habitat office at 867-0095 in Brewton, or you may simply show up on demo day and register. You must be at least 16 years of age or under the direction of responsible adult.
