Leadership Atmore class in for good year

Last year about this time, a small group of people got together for a year of Leadership Atmore.

I was in the 2017 class, and as I sit here writing this column, I can’t help but think about the 2018 class and what they must be going through.

On Tuesday, the newest class met at Camp Beckwith for a morning and early afternoon full of ropes courses and activities aimed to not only bring the group closer together, but to give an indication of who stands out as leaders. At least, that’s what I got from the day.

Late in the day, the class will have the opportunity to chill before dinnertime and a night of just hanging and getting to know each other.

Looking back, I’m excited about what journey this current class is about to embark on because they’re going to go through a slew of monthly sessions aimed around Atmore.

As you probably know, my favorite session was the history and culture portion of the class.

I wish I was going on that session once again, but alas, maybe in the future when I have time. Who knows?

If I were to give a bit of advice to the current class it would be to have an open mind before entering each session.

There were many times I went in to a session thinking I already knew what was what. There were several times I walked away thinking, wow, I didn’t know this or that.

Take advantage of each session that will transpire over the next year because it’ll be over in the blink of an eye, and you’ll be like me and want to take the class over again.
