Friday golf game surprised me; was fun

Last Friday was a good day.

With my brother and his friends, we played golf at Chatuge Shores Golf Club in Hayesville, N.C., and it was the perfect course for all of us.

There were nine of us playing that day, so I was in one of about four groups. We played best ball, or scramble for the golf junkies.

Now, before I go on, it had been more than two years since I played golf, maybe longer, and I wasn’t sure how I’d hold up.

Warming up, I hit the ball exceptionally well.

However, when I started the course, it was another matter entirely. There were some drives and irons I hit well, but overall, I realized I needed to get back out on the range again.

It was funny, when I hit my first shank, or bad shot, I just laughed and thought, let’s just have fun today.

A big highlight for me, other than getting to know some of my brothers’ friends, was the way I handled putts on the green.

By the end of the day, I was quite pleased with my efforts on the greens. My brother gave me a good high five to applaud my efforts.

For the rest of the weekend, we played disc golf and hung around.

I went to bed Sunday night thinking that the last weekend, as a whole, was a good one and one I’ll never forget, especially playing golf at Chatuge.
