Severe weather threat slated for area

Severe weather is slated to hit the Atmore area later this morning through early this evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Cody Lindsey of the NWS Mobile-Pensacola office, said the weather threat line will progress eastward, and in addition, a high risk of rip currents will occur along the area beaches through tonight.

The severe weather threat includes strong to severe thunderstorms possible with damaging winds, Lindsey said in an email.

He said that brief isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out, and localized nuisance type flooding will be possible in urban areas and roads that typically have poor drainage.

The limited flood threat area is mainly across the far southern portions of southeast Mississippi and southwest Alabama.
