The Atmore City Council approved the Women of Distinction’s annual Cancer Walk, which will be held on Sat., Oct. 13, 2018.

Yolanda Webster, WOD Cancer Walk coordinator, said the walk will begin at city hall, and then progress to Houston Avery Park. The walk begins at 10 a.m.

In other business, the council suspended the rules and approved ordinance 2018-03, to allow alcohol sales on Sundays.

In January, the city council adopted a resolution to allow alcohol sales on Sundays starting at 10 a.m. The resolution then went to the legislature, where HB404, sponsored by state Rep. Alan Baker, was enacted.

The legislature adopted the resolution in March.

The new law is effective immediately, and allows for businesses with proper licenses to sell alcohol starting at 10 a.m. on Sundays.
