NHS played four games during it inaugural season.

Despite not winning a game, NHS coach Obreonne Smith said the girls made a lot of progress.

“I saw the girls make a tremendous amount of improvement from the beginning of the year until now,” Smith said. “I think they did great.”

Smith said the girls played Washington, Pine Forest and Pensacola High School during the season.

Team members included Savannah Spence, Addisson Albritton, Lynnsey Holzapfel, Maggie Lane, Rebecca Diamond, Reba Rhinehart, Bailee Hinote, Saphia Iniguez, Lauren Sapp, Susannah Amerson, Adrianna Cooper, Desiree Gresham and D’Janique Lowery.

Smith said some of the girls had never played sports before, and that this year was a big learning experience.

“I’m looking forward to next year,” she said.

In fact, the Florida High School Athletic Association will recognize girls flag football as an official sport that will be played during the spring next year.
