Police officials are investigating a shooting that occurred around the area of Medical Park Drive and the East Horner Street on April 28, according to the Atmore Police Department.
Chief Chuck Brooks said gunshots were heard by one of the department’s supervisors at around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday.
“A few seconds later, complaints started coming in from the area,” he said. “This case is being investigated, but there were three vehicles involved.”
Brooks said the vehicles were occupied by some juveniles, but no one was injured in the shooting. Additionally, the APD isn’t releasing any names as of this time.
“During the investigation, we discovered that three vehicles were damaged by gun fire,” Brooks said. “Basically, they were shooting back and forth at one another.”
Brooks said evidence was collected at the scene, photos were taken of the damaged vehicles and at the present, the investigation is centered around identifying all of the parties involved.
“We hope that criminal charges will be signed soon,” he said.
Brooks said the shooting is a serious offense.
“We’re not going to put up with it,” he said. “When you do something that puts the public at risk, it puts the people at risk. These people will be identified and charged appropriately.”
Brooks said one of the charges that will be handed down is shooting into an occupied vehicle, and others.
When asked why the shooting occurred, Brooks said it was in retaliation of another case that’s been investigated.
“We’re going to get to the bottom of it,” he said. “We’re going to get all of the people in involved in this, and we expect warrants to be issued soon.”
