Organizations pull together to bring pad to life
Members of the Atmore community celebrated the grand opening of the Atmore Community Splash Pad at the old ball park grounds across from Heritage Park on May 18.
The splash pad, which covers a 2,000-square foot area, features different water jets shooting from a train, sunflower, from the floor and water buckets, to name a few.
Officials said at the ceremony that the splash pad will be open every day from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. A motion detector turns the splash pad on.
The pad is a collaboration between the Atmore Rotary and Lions Club, city of Atmore, First National Bank and Trust, Gulf Coast RC&D, Gulf Winds Federal Credit Union, the Poarch Creek Indians and United Bank.
Allen Walston, one of the coordinators of the project, said the discussion to build the pad began about eight months ago.
After donations were raised, the splash pad began construction earlier this year.
