Dead body found in field

UPDATE: Atmore police investigators have released the name of the man that was found dead in a field off Northgate Drive on Thursday.

Lt. John Stallworth said this morning that the body was identified as Clinton Dortch, 63, of Atmore.

Stallworth said Dortch was taken to the to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Mobile for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

A man was found dead by family members today in a field off of Northgate Drive just outside Atmore, according to officials.

At present, the Atmore Police is on scene, and Lt. John Stallworth confirmed that a black male was found dead by family members in a field near where he lives.

“My investigators are processing the scene, and we’re waiting to release identification until in the morning,” Stallworth said.

Stallworth said the Escambia County coroner has been notified.

Stallworth said there’s no sign of suspicious activity in regard to the death, and an autopsy will be performed.

Stallworth said family members hadn’t heard from the deceased male since about Monday, and went out to look for him.

“They know he walks across this field because he lives nearby,” he said. “They came out here to follow a track they knew he would follow.”
At present, the death investigation is ongoing by the APD.
