An Atmore man passed away early Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle near the intersection of McMeans Avenue and West 5th Street on July 14 in Bay Minette, according to police officials.

Bay Minette Police Chief Al Tolbert said in a release that the pedestrian, Logan H. Barrett, 23, of Atmore, passed away from injuries received when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Andrew M. Cross, Birmingham.

Tolbert said Barrett was struck by Cross’s vehicle when he attempted to cross the highway.

Tolbert said Cross was arrested for assault I, driving under the influence, possession of marijuana II and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A bond hearing was held for Cross on Monday, Tolbert said.

The chief said that a judge set Cross’s bond at $61,500 — assault 1, $50,000; driving under the influence, $10,000; possession of marijuana II, $1,000; and possession of drug paraphernalia, $500.

Tolbert said if Cross makes bond, his bond condition includes being ordered to wear a GPS ankle monitor, monthly drug and alcohol testing and a court order banning him from operating a vehicle.
