Ever since she was a child, Brandy Hawkins’ dream was to be a wrestler.

Hawkins is a student at the Dirty 30 Southern Heat Wrestling Sportatorium in Atmore.

The Frisco City resident said she grew up watching WCW’s Monday Nitro and WWE’s Monday Night RAW with her grandfather, BJ Baccus.

She said what really got her into the sport is WWE Hall of Famer Lita.

“Her matches with (HOF inductee) Trish Stratus really got me into it,” Hawkins said. “They set it for female wrestling.”

Hawkins said she’s been training for about two weeks, and is learning a lot.

“It was awful, but I loved it,” she said about taking her first bump. “It was so much fun. No matter how hard it hurts, I love it.”

As seen over the last few years, women have made a name for themselves within the pro wrestling business.

Hawkins said she’s glad they’re getting some recognition, and are able to show their talent, instead of looking good.

“Lita’s my favorite, but in today’s wrestlers, it would probably be Charlotte Flair,” she said.
