Escambia County’s Jordaun Patterson and Malik Brown were responsible for one touchdown each to help lead the Blue Devils to a 16-7 victory over T.R. Miller in the varsity half of a jamboree game tonight.
Trailing 7-0 in the first quarter, Brown returned a kick off more than 80 yards to the house with 5:05 left in the first quarter.
T.R. Miller’s Jalen Walker scored the Tigers’ only touchdown of the game from the 1 with 5:28 left in the opening quarter.
The defense for Escambia County stepped up big on the Tigers’ first possession of the second quarter.
With that momentum, Patterson found JaBryce Hooks for a 12-yard touchdown pass with 5:17 left in the second. Patterson’s 2-point conversion attempt to Lue Williams gave Atmore the 9-point advantage.
The Blue Devils didn’t let up on defense, applying pressure on T.R. Miller’s quarterback, forcing a punt.
In other varsity action, Escambia Academy beat Snook Christian 63-0 to open its regular season.
The Cougars (1-0) visit Tuscaloosa Academy next week.
