Mr. Gerald Michael “Jerry” Bynum, 62, of Atmore, quietly fell asleep in the arms of Jesus at his residence on Wed., Aug. 22, 2018.

Born in Century, Fla., Jerry was reared in Atmore, where he was a 1973 graduate of Escambia County High School. Upon graduation, Jerry entered the U.S. Army, where he served his country for eight years.

He was known throughout the community and would help many in his neighborhood. He was a loyal worker who assisted the Flower’s family for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie L. Bynum Sr. and Mary Alice Bynum; two sisters, Eloise Hooks and Linda “Judy” Bynum Welker; one brother, Nelson Bynum; and his grandparents.

Those left to cherish memories of his life are his children, Gerald Michael Bynum Jr., Shanela Holmes, Jelani Bynum and Taneisha Vaughan; four sisters, Ruthie (David) Deese, Kadren Bynum, Mary Ann Cottle and Martha Ingram; four brothers, Willie “Billy” Bynum Jr., Quinton Bynum, Vincent Bynum and Ericke Jason Bynum; grandchildren; an aunt, Shirley Ann McDowell; nieces, nephews, cousins; a devoted friend, Paul Ikner; and friends.

Funeral service will be held this Sat., Sept. 1, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Empowerment Tabernacle Christian Center with Bishop Willie L. Williams, eulogist, and Bishop Darryl North, as host pastor. Inhumation will be in Stallworth Cemetery. Public viewing will be held this Fri., Aug. 31, from 2-7 p.m. at the funeral home. His remains will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the funeral service with Turner Funeral Chapel LLC directing.
