Tropical storm warning in effect for Escambia County, Fla. coastal

A tropical storm warning and storm surge watch are in effect for Escambia Coastal and Santa Rosa, Fla. Coastal counties, according to the National Weather Service.

Additionally, a tropical storm warning, surge watch and hurricane watch are in effect for Baldwin central and coastal, and Mobile central and coastal counties.

According to the NWS, Tropical Storm Gordon is forecast to move into the southeast Gulf of Mexico later today, and reach the central Gulf coast by late Tuesday or Tuesday night.

Gordon has the potential to bring significant rainfall amounts, flash flooding and isolated tornadoes to the area, mainly across portions of inland southeast Mississippi, southwest Alabama, and the western Florida panhandle. Tropical storm force winds and coastal flooding impacts are also possible.

As of 2:15 p.m. today, the NWS expanded the flash flood watch to include portions of southwest Alabama and southwest Mississippi, from Tuesday until Wednesday evening.

According to the NWS, bands of heavy rainfall will develop and move over the region beginning late Tuesday, Tuesday night and into early Wednesday.

Widespread rainfall amounts of 3-5 inches with local amounts of 6-10 inches along southwest of Beaumont, Miss. to Mobile to the Pensacola, Fla. line.
